I get so much pleasure out of taking pictures of expectant mothers and fathers. It is a remarkable time that goes so fast and can be forgotten so easily. I hope what I do allows them to hold onto at least a tiny piece of it forever.

Because I can't! Would you just look at that teeny-tiny baby tushy?! I know, I know, I am constantly posting pictures of naked babies. But how can I help it when they look as scrumptious as this?!

I haven't seen Samantha since she was just brand new. Now she has done this whole baby thing for a year and she is OWNING it! She was full of spunk and laughs. I love seeing my babies grow (yes, they are mine, too. Sorry Kirsten and Paul, but I steak a little bit of a claim to her ;-).

Why do these beautiful children have to go and make me feel so old all the time? It CAN'T be more than two years since this first session. And yet.....ugh, it has been. They become so much more beautiful with each passing day, but why do those darn days have to be passing so quickly?!

This was Kate when she was just a little wisp of a peanut.

And now....she is a loving and spunky big sister speaking Portuguese a mile a minute that I, of course, had no hope of understanding.

Baby sister Giulia is the spitting image. And her parents had better get ready now if she's equally as feisty!

I thought it had been over a year since I posted to my blog, but it's only been 10 1/2 months. Look at me go! I could say I promise to be better, but, well, that might end up being a lie. So we'll just take baby steps and start with this; Baby Desmond! Isn't he scrumptiously beautiful?! I visited my good friend Allie yesterday and I love what we got of her beautiful family.

Shirtless brothers, that is. There is just something so basic about little boys running around outside in their jeans and nothing else. I love to capture them like this. I always hope that they'll treasure these glimpses of their childhood relationship when they're grown.

And since yesterday was so warm, a perfect opportunity for more shirtless guys. They were both absolute gems. I hardly knew what to do with myself when it took no coaxing on my part to get them to do what I wanted.

I just came across this picture from this summer. As much as I like to be in denial about it (easier to do earlier in the week when it was 90 degrees), summer really is coming to an end. I think this is the first time in a long time that I haven't been excited to get back into yummy fall clothes. A trip to mall will probably cure me of my melancholy though! Sigh....time to put my tank tops lovingly into the back of the closet.

On a business note, fall sessions are being booked with a vengeance. If you want to book a session in time for Holiday delivery, it must be completed by November 11th. There are still several weekday openings and only 3 weekend openings. Call me soon if you want dibs!

The older I get, the faster time goes, as I'm sure it does for most of us. Funny how when we were teenagers and all we wanted was to speed up time and grow up, days traveled at a snail's pace. And now...well, hanging out with River yesterday reminds me that time is going faster than ever. Even though it seems like only a few months ago that he was a tiny baby in a basket (check him out here), he's a big boy now, walking, running, and having a blast!

River's mommy owns Spring Pilates on Southport. If you're in the neighborhood, you should check it out. It's a super cozy and comfortable atmosphere and you'll even see work from a familiar photographer on the wall!

So here's a little taste of our session yesterday....

And the pièce de résistance! The plumber's crack to end all plumber's cracks. He is so scrumptious, I want to spread him on a cracker and gobble him up!

Purchasing me as a surprise gift is quite excellent and thoughtful if I do say so myself! The daddy of this beautiful trio is the lucky recipient on this occasion. We had so much fun running around the farm. And it was even more fun knowing that we were creating an extra special birthday surprise. What a lucky man to have such beautiful children AND a thoughtful woman by his side.

Okay, I know that's so trite, but in this instance, it's the only way to describe what happened at yesterday's session.

I headed out yesterday to meet the adorable Connor and his parents. We finished up our session and started talking about this and that when Connor's mom mentioned that daddy is a native Wisconsin boy. Well, being a Wisconsin girl myself, I asked where he's from. Turns out he's from the town that my dad's whole family is from. And of course my constant response was "SHUT UP!" (really classy way to talk to clients, right?), but DUDE! it was completely blowing my mind. I mean, how many people have heard of Mukwonago, much less lived there. AND my cousin (Hi Jason!) is one of his best friends. We've even been at some of my huge family functions at the same time and didn't know it. Crazy!

I am barely back from my vacation and I'm on my way out the door again. Last time was pleasure, this time is business. Well, it's a workshop that happens to be on a cruise ship so I'm guessing there may be a moment or two of fun, but mostly blood, sweat and tears, I'm sure!

I will be out of town beginning Wednesday, April 30th until Tuesday, May 6th. I am off for some fun and sun with my fantabulous husband of 10 years for our anniversary. And after the winter we have just endured here in Chicagoland, a tropical destination is just what the doctor ordered!

I love pregnant bellies. Love them, love them, love them. I really can't think of anything more beautiful than a pregnant woman (although I know said pregnant woman usually isn't feeling so beautiful). Pregnancy is one of the pure things left in the world. Our society hasn't been able to speed it up, or carry it in a backpack, or any other change that might seem more "convenient". It's amazing and beautiful and it never gets old to me no matter how many times I photograph it.

This has been on my "to do" list for....well, way too long. But I'm DONE! I've redone all of my galleries with sessions from all of 2007. It was so hard. And not because of the work involved with revamping everything, sizing, etc. But the choosing, OH the choosing. I agonized over cutting out so many favorites. It took me forever to make all of my choices and there are still too many in each gallery. But the best part about my website is that it's MY website ;-). And I get to decide. So for my sanity, I decided to fill it to the brim with as many of my favorites as it would hold.

Bath Time!

In thinking of the year ahead, one can't help but look back on the year gone past. Two Thousand Seven was a wonderful year for me. I learned a lot. I accomplished a lot. My children are healthy and growing as beautifully as can be.

In looking at my work over the past year, I thought I'd share some of my favorite bath time images. I love doing bath pictures. I think it's one of those things that speaks to a child's innocence. It's something you can't take pictures of forever. You can put your child on a swing at 2 and 10 and 16. But you can't exactly plop them in a tub filled with bubbles and start taking pictures at any old age. It's short-lived, just like their babyhood.

another one grows up

I met Rogan about 10 short months ago. For us boring ol' grown-ups, 10 months goes by in the blink of an eye. I remember so much about that first session (picture on right) when he was just 8 months old like it was a few weeks ago. So imagine my surprise when I arrived on Rogan's doorstep today to find, not the fuzzy-haired adorable baby I had only just met, but a sweet little BOY; dancing, running, and maybe even getting into a little mischief.

The best part of my job is getting to watch our future grow up before my eyes; even if it is a little sad to see the baby days go. But don't worry Rogan, you'll always be Mommy and Daddy's baby.

Today...17 months.

No, I'm not making a proclamation about how fabulous I am. I've been tagged. A whole gaggle of photographers have been running around the web tagging each other. I've been tagged by the fabulous and delightful Gretchen Mathison. So now I have to tell you 8 random and/or incredibly fascinating facts about myself....

~ I was just a baby when I got married, a young and bright eyed 21 years old to my high school sweetheart whom I met when I was 16. By the time I turn 33, I'll have spent more of my life with him than without him and I couldn't be happier about that.

~ For my 16th birthday, my dad gave me a Harley Davidson motorcycle (just a little baby one). Just before I got it, I was listening to "Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane on the radio, how fitting. I took it for a test drive singing that song at the top of my lungs. I rode through the hay field (we lived in the sticks in Wisconsin) and then proceeded to completely wipe out on the road. I could barely lift it back up. I failed the test for my license and then just sort of lost interest. (I was an easily distracted teenager)

~ My very first job was at a restaurant/bar called the Ding-A-Ling (affectionately referred to as "The Ling") bussing tables.

~ I used to have a pet pig named Alberta. If you scratched her tummy, she's flop over on her side and kick her legs just like a dog.

~ I find Ho-Ho's to be the most wicked delicious treat there is. And if there wasn't that little issue of exponential weight gain, I'd price my portraits in boxes of Ho-Ho's rather than $$.

~ I attended UW-Madison right in the glory days of the Rose Bowl and never once went to a football game - shameful!

~ I admit it, I'm obsessed with Harry Potter; I have the books, the audio books and the movies. I love that little wizard. (But I don't dress up or anything like that; It's a quiet obsession. :-)

~ Shhh...don't tell...I let my boys pee on a tree if we're far from the bathroom and it drives my husband NUTS. I find it to be an excellent perk of having boys. Oh, c'mon, you know you do it too!

She wasn't even six pounds at that first session...and now just look at our girl; filled with smiles and laughs and just enough attitude that all self-respecting women need!

A Business Note

Sorry to ruin all the fun with business stuff and no pictures, but I live to keep you informed!

As of August first, the second bi-annual rate change will occur. I reevaluate rates twice per year and changes are always effective February 1 and August 1.

As of that date, my session fee will be $150 for weekdays and $200 for weekends.

All sessions booked booked by July 31 for August will receive the old session fee rate ($120) and the old portrait pricing. Sessions booked for September or October will receive the old session fee rate, but will be charged the new portrait pricing.

So! I tell you this so that if you have been planning to schedule a session or have a friend who has been gushing over your portraits from a previous session, make sure you get on my calendar soon.

August is a very busy month for me so there are a limited number of sessions available.

A blog post for this little guy is long overdue. I met him and his super sweet family two weeks ago. He was just a photographers dream. Just think of it, a two year old who LOVES having his picture taken AND does whatever you ask him to do. This combination is very few and far between. And when I say he loves having his picture taken, I mean it. Every time he heard the shutter click, he'd jump up, run to mom and dad to tell them he JUST HAD HIS PICTURE TAKEN! Then he would run back and sit down right where I had him. After a very busy start to June, he was a little present sent just for me!

I did my first engagement session this weekend. I definitely felt like a fish out of water, what with no wiping drool off their chins or taking time for a diaper change break, but we had lots of fun all the same!

You can't meet this little six month old cutie and NOT mention her hair! As a mom of kids who were bald until they were 2 years old, it's so fun to me to see a baby with tons of hair. I'm sure her parents wish they had a nickel for every time they get a comment (she'd have a nice Ivy League College fund by now, I'm sure!). But aside from the massive amounts of beautiful chestnut hair, she was so cheerful and curious. We had a great time!

Really, what else could you say about little River? I met River today and he was just a little angel. And let me tell ya, that's not always true of a six week old. Six weeks is a hard age for photographers because they don't like to sleep as much a brand new baby, but they can't yet sit up or interact as much as a baby who is a few months old.

But River was perfect; he was awake a little, slept a little, and of course had to sprinkle every room of the house in honor of bein' nekkid. But his mommy and daddy were totally relaxed and easy-going which is I'm sure where River gets his angelic disposition. Although they did tell me that he wasn't so much of an angel before I arrived. But he was perfect for his session and that's all that counts, right?

But for now they are boys....my boys. And they are brothers, boy, oh, boy are they brothers.

There will come a day when they aren't home with me - destroying everything in their path. There will come a day when the word "poop" no longer sends them into uncontrollable fits of laughter. And while I can't say I'll be sad to see that go, I know one day the memory of it will make me smile.

All of these pictures make me smile. I smile not only because of their genuine happiness, but because of the visible scrapes and the crazy face and the missing tooth from my youngest's mouth. All of these little realities of today captured in these images will be there when today is long gone.

Take pictures, lots and lots of pictures. Laugh in the face of time (BWAH-ah-ah-ah!). Keep them little for you, forever.

(I also have a daughter. A very beautiful, passionate girl, but you will meet her on a different day.)

...than with a brand new baby? This is baby Evelyn. I had the pleasure of meeting her today. She is everything perfect in a teeny-tiny newborn - teeny, tiny and new!
